16.10.1961 My mother was watching the premiere of Henry de Montherland’s The Cardinal of Spain, directed by my godfather Max Fritzsche, in the Bochumer Schauspielhaus in Germany, whose director, Hans Schalla, was my father, when she lost her amniotic fluid. 17.10.1961 In the early hours of the following day I was born.
Until 1972 I spent a very happy childhood amongst actors, in the theatre and behind the stage.
1972-1990 After moving to Hamburg I attended secondary school, studied Latin, Ancient Greek, Philosophy and History at the university. I edited some papers (e.g. Schokolade, a satirical magazine), was active in politics and was busy in amateur rock bands (The Planless, Die Kanzler).
1991-2013 In this period I was the manager of the language institute ARTES BONAE (Latin, Ancient Greek, German) in Hamburg, wrote a Latin grammar and a German short grammar. In my spare time I tried to learn more languages and wrote some short stories.
2014 Coming to Britain as a single father with two young kids, relaxing.
2015-2017 Starting my second life: writing, acting, directing, performing in Swanage, Dorset:
Metis and Enkelados (“This is not a play”)
Alice (A Whodunnit in Wonderland)
An Evening of Conceptual Absurdity (various short plays written by myself and Tadeusz Rozewicz)
Short film: A Day in the Life of Jesel.
2018 Leaving rural England, coming to London and settling down in East Finchley.
