Previously a writer of comedy and satire for stage, radio and satirical clubs, Martin was contracted to write a musical by legendary producer Greg Smith for the West End and Broadway inspired by his best-selling book, To Be Or Not To Be, Innit, a Yoof-Speak Guide to Shakespeare.

Tributes

I had the pleasure of performing in a few of Martiin’s fabulous comedies - they will always stay with me as he put so much of himself in his writing. After MS set in, everything took a back seat, until he was introduced to meditation which, in time, allowed him to get on with his life in a more positive way and also to help a lot of newly diagnosed sufferers of the debilitating condition. It helped Martin, always, to remind old and new MSers, as he called them, that they still have so much to offer. Martin’s motto was ‘Live life, not MS’. Despite all the setbacks MS caused, he never let it get him down for long and just got on with life. Even recently, we at AWL had the pleasure of watching Peter Saracen perform Martin’s ‘The Nebbish Vampire’ in an evening of monologues, organised by Sally Sheringham. It was a great start to a wonderful evening and I’m only sad Martin himself wasn’t able to make it so we could have seen him for a final time and he could have seen how well his monologue was received. RIP dear Martin. You will live on in many of our hearts.
