This was a private rehearsed reading in the garden of Paddy Gormley’s home, to celebrate and encourage Paddy’s recovery from recent surgery.
Paddy writes:
“Doctor, Doctor is the first act of a failed adaptation of Molière’s doctor plays, dating from the late 1990s. I started with Argan’s opening monologue from Le Malade imaginaire, and went on to import the vengeful wife Martine from Le Médecin malgré lui. This led me to set up a thrilling and to the first act... only to find that I had boxed myself into a corner from which there was no escape.
If I were to revisit this project (I have no plans to do so) I would probably stick with Le Malade imaginaire and take the usual liberties as translator/adapter.”
