Barrister Jack Watkinson has a dilemma. His client protests innocence against overwhelming evidence. Jacks gut tells him his client is not lying. He can get the case dismissed on a technicality. Unpopular - but, as he puts it, if popularity ranks higher than integrity the law is a sham. His client refuses - he would still be guilty in the eyes of the public. For peace of mind, Jack needs to find out if his gut feeling is right. If not, what drives his client to refuse to face the truth? The play cross-cuts between trial, Jacks attempts to find the truth and flashbacks.
